AFC at Junior Olympics in February 2007 - (This excerpt is from the
Arizona Tribune): "ON THEIR GUARD" Thirteen athletes from the Arizona Fencing Center in
Mesa will be competing in the Junior Olympics next month in Denver. These fencers,
ranging in ages from 12 to 18 are: Rebecca Moss, Bobby Cottam, Alex Opechowski, Dania
Wright, Tarron Villaverde, Lindsay Young all from Mesa; Kip Meyer and Jenny Meyer from
Scottsdale; Jana Arrodondo, Sarah Martines, Jack Resnik from Tempe; and Elliott Bartell,
Zachary Bartell, Nic Goodall from Chandler.
All the competitors from Arizona Fencing Center are coached by Adrian Colcisca or
Florin Paunescu, who are fencing masters from World Cup Romanian fencing teams.
More than 450 athletes are expected to participate in the event schedule for Feb.

AFC at Summer Nationals 2006 - AFC had more qualifiers for summer
nationals than any other club from Arizona. AFC qualified more fencers this year than we
did last year. Some of the results are: D1A Men's Epee: The Silver medal went to Skyler
Russell and 7th Place Bobby Cottam. Under19 Women's Epee: 19th place Rebecca Moss. Youth
12 Women's Epee: Kimberly Young and Lindsay Young finished in 32nd Place in D1A Women's
Epee and 11th Place in Under 16 Women's Epee. Everyone had a great time and we look

AFC Fencer Rebecca Moss to Yale - We would like to take a moment to
recognize Rebecca Moss. She has been one bright star at AFC winning many medals in local,
national and internationally. Rebecca is now a freshman at Yale University. Her hard work
and determination in both school and fencing paved her way to Yale. She will be missed by

AFC Fencer Rebecca Moss Takes Medals in Two Weapons at 2006
Junior Olympics
Rebecca was the only fencer, out of 2,366 competitors, to medal in two weapons at the
2006 Junior Olympics held February 17 - 20, in Hartford, Connecticut. Rebecca won the
Bronze medal in Junior Women's Foil and placed 7th in Junior Women's Epee. She also
renewed her A rating in Epee and earned her A rating in Foil.
Rebecca is a senior at Mt. View High School in Mesa, Arizona. She has been recruited
by Duke, Ohio State, Notre Dame, Northwestern, the University of Pennsylvania, Cornell,
Princeton, and Yale.
AFC sent 10 fencers to the Junior Olympics including: Ruslan Asbrosimov, Elliott
Bartell, Bobby Cottam, Nic Goodall, Melanie Hipple, Adam Killpack, Houlton Mahanney,

Nic Goodall Ties for 3rd at the Linkmeyer/USC
Invitational
Eight fencers from AFC traveled to the University of Southern California to
participate in the Linkmeyer Invitational at on USC March 4, 2006. Nic Goodall tied for
third place in Open Mixed Saber. Dimitri Hochard placed 5th, Phil Wiener placed in the
top 16. In Open Mixed Foil, Drew Moseley and Ewan Douglas placed in the top 16. Jenny
Meyers placed in the top 16 in Women's Epee. (posted

AFC Competing in So. Cal - AFC will be competing at the Linkmeyer
Invitational at USC on March 4, 2006. AFC competing at this event will be preparing for
the upcoming Sectional Tournament for the Arizona Section titles and for the upcoming
Summer National Qualifiers in April. (posted 2.27.06)
AFC Turns Out for Duel in the Desert - Rebecca Moss placed 6th in
Women's Epee and 8th in Women's Foil at Duel in the Desert. Melanie Hipple placed in the
top 16 in Women's Saber and Nic Goodall placed in the top 16 in Men's Saber.
Eleven fencers traveled to Las Vegas for the 2006 Duel in the Desert, February 3-5,
2006. Bobby Cottam and Ruslan Asbrosimov competed in Men's Epee. Drew Moseley and Tony
Park competed in Men's Foil. Nic Goodall, Adam Killpack, Aaron Vessey and Phil Wiener
competed in Men's Saber. Robin Arroyo, Jana Arrendondo, and Rebecca Moss, competed in

AFC Takes the Gold, Silver and Bronze at the El Paso Regional Youth Circuit
Tournament
- Alex Gastony takes the Silver medal in his first major tournament in Y10 Mixed Epee.
Yeah Alex!
- Ewan Douglas takes the Silver medal and Jack Resnick takes the Bronze for Y14 Mixed
Foil.
- Ewan Douglas takes the Gold medal and Zach Gastony takes the Silver medal for Y14
Mixed Saber.
Other fencers from AFC attending the RYC were: Lindsay and Kimberly Young, Cutter
Videan, Donald Martinez, Jenny Meyer, Rhys Douglas, Chris Meyer, and Sarah Keeling.

Summer National Results - We are very proud of all our Summer National fencers.
Everyone fenced well and AFC received a number of compliments from other coaches,
fencers, and parents about our fencing and our wonderful spirit. In the 37 events AFC
fenced in, AFC fencers placed higher than any other club in Arizona in 31 events!
Here are just a few of the outstanding efforts by AFC fencers:
- Rebecca Moss brought home the Bronze Medal for Under 19 Women's Epee
and she placed 14th in Division I-A Women's Epee. Great job Rebecca!
- Kimberly Young brought home the Bronze Medal for Youth 10 Women's
Epee. Yeah Kimberly!
- Shaun McGonigle competed in Division I-A Men's Epee and placed 28th
out of 107 fencers. Shaun has only recently returned from serving in the military and
only had a couple of weeks of practice before heading to Sacramento. Congratulations
Shaun!
- Bobby Cottam - placed 9th in Division II Men's Epee and 20th in
Under 19 Men's Epee. Yeah Bobby!
- Ewan Douglas placed 32nd out of 179 in Division III Men's Foil .
Yeah Ewan!
- Lindsay Young placed 18th in Y-14 Women's Epee, placed 15th out of
74 in Under 16 Women's Epee and 15th out of 137 in Division III Women's Epee. Yeah
Lindsay!
- Our Senior Women's Epee Team took 4th place! Great job Jana Arredondo, Robin
Arroyo, Rebecca Moss and Jenny Meyer!

Rebecca Moss 15th at Div I NAC - Rebecca Moss took 15th place out of 73
competitors at the Division I NAC in Chattanooga, TN, April 18, 2005. Because of her
excellent fencing, Rebecca has qualified to fence in the Div I National Championships in

Rebecca Moss 2nd place at Jr. Olympics - Rebecca Moss placed 2nd in Cadet Epee
beating out 140 competitors. Jr. Olympics took place in Arlington, TX Feb. 18-21, 2005.

Rebecca Moss in the North America Cup - Rebecca Moss has attended two NAC's in
this 2004-2005 season. At the Overland Park, KS competition January 14-17, 2005, Rebecca
took 29th in Div. I and Junior. At the Atlanta NAC on October 8-11, 2004, Rebecca placed
5th in Cadet Women's Epee. She currently is 5th in National Point Standings in Cadet

Rebecca Moss takes 5th at Junior World Cup - Louisville, KY, Nov. 5-7, 2004. In
an exciting competition, Rebecca placed 5th in Cadet Women's Epee at the Jr. World Cup.

San Diego Jr. Invitational, August 7-8, 2004 - AFC had three fencers attend
this event in San Diego. Trevor Tratten competed in the Jr. Sabre competition. Ewan &
Rhys Douglas competed in the Jr., Cadet, and Y-14 Foil competitions. Ewan took the Bronze
medal in Y-14 and Rhys took sixth place. All three of these guys did an outstanding job

Arizona State Championships, June 19-20, 2004 - CONGRATULATIONS
TO OUR FENCERS! AFC took home 3 Gold Medals and 1 Silver out of 4 events at the State
Championships! Rebecca Moss took Gold in both the Mixed Epee and Women's Epee;
Drew Moseley took the Gold in Mixed Foil; Dimitri Hochard took Silver in

Election Results for Arizona Division - Congratulations to Pia Douglas and
Gaiane Hochard of AFC! Elections for Arizona Division Officers were held at the State
Championships and resulted in the election of Pia Douglas for Division Chair, Gaiane
Hochard for Vice Chair and Daisy Flores for Secretary/Treasurer. Changes will take effect
